Comparison of field integrals for the ALS EPUs

There is one set of two plots at the bottom of this page. The data used to generate them are the current feed-forward tables for the parallel or circular-polarization mode (as used on 2002-10-01 at the ALS at 1.9 GeV) and magnetic measurement data provided by Steve Marks (measured on the bench with a straight, moving wire at a gap of 14 mm). The upper plot shows the comparison of the feed-forward table and the magnetic measurement data for the EPU in sector 4, the lower plot for the EPU in sector 11.

The kicks based on the feed-forward tables are just the sum of the two kicks of the upstream and downstream correctors. One should remark that depending on the exact longitudinal distribution of the kick from the EPU the sum of the two corrector kicks might be somewhat different from the direct field integral (due to the very nature of the closed orbit). But it should be a fairly precise estimate.

Conclusion: Measured kicks in the vertical plane for the two devices in sectors 4+11 are in reasonably good agreement and agree within 20% with the feed-forward tables, which is reasonable considering the simple summation of the two corrector magnet kicks.
