On January 22, the third in a series of online ALS user forums was held on the Advanced Light Source Upgrade (ALS-U) project. ALS-U Project Director Dave Robin presented an overview of the project and its current status. Incoming Interim ALS Director Steve Kevan detailed the more comprehensive plan for ALS renewal over the coming years, reminding users that, outside the scope of the ALS-U project, the ALS will continue to improve an innovate in parallel over the next several years and after the project’s completion. Andreas Scholl, interim ALS science deputy and ALS-U beamline working group chair, shared a working group update. And ALS Staff Scientist Alexander Hexemer presented recent feedback from a crosscutting review and workshop on the future of soft matter research at the ALS.
The event also provided a venue for questions and answers, particularly around how users can be involved in determining the future capabilities of the ALS. Scholl told users that they can:
- Continue to participate in the forums;
- Contact beamline staff listed on the ALS-U beamline selection webpage;
- Contact their Users’ Executive Committee representatives; or
- Submit input directly to the ALS-U team via this form.
The next forum will be held Thursday, March 1, at 10 a.m. PT. Further details are provided here.
