PS-O staff collaborate with and support researchers using ALS-operated beamlines. The degree of collaboration can range from technical assistance with the beamline to full partnership in developing new research programs, scientific capabilities, and endstations. PS-O also strives to expand the ALS scientific program and broaden its user base by inventing new techniques, performing demonstration experiments, giving presentations, and publishing results.
PS-D staff are responsible for the construction of new beamlines and endstations, the development of new experimental techniques in collaboration with PS-O scientific staff, and the maintenance and development of the necessary infrastructure to support these activities. PS-D also participates in long-term planning for the ALS scientific and technical program.
