A warm welcome from the ALS Users’ Executive Committee 2022! We are a group of users established by the ALS Users’ Association Charter to serve and represent the interests of the user community from all over the world who perform research at the ALS. We provide a channel of communication and advocacy between the user community and ALS management. This year, the UEC consists of continuing members Ming Yi (Rice University) as chair, Johanna Nelson Weker (SSRL) as the past-chair, Inna Vishik (UC Davis) as the vice-chair who will become the chair in 2023, Hope Michelsen (University of Colorado Boulder), Stephanie Gilbert Corder (ALS), Yingge Du (PNNL), Matthijs van Spronsen (Diamond), Rourav Basak (UC San Diego), Eric Meshot (LLNL), and newly elected members Connor Bischak (University of Utah), Wendy Gu (Stanford University), Yu He (Yale University), Sharon Bone (SLAC), and Quentin Williams (UC Santa Cruz). We also thank the service of the members who finished their terms: Alex Frano, Clemens Heske, and Antoine Wojdyla.
We look forward to working together through this important year ahead of us. Look out for a future message from us for details on the upcoming User Meeting in August, to be held virtually. We will continue last year’s successful model of keynote speakers, focused workshops/tutorials, poster session with the student poster competition, and the ALS 101 tutorial. This year’s User Meeting chairs, Hope Michelsen, Yu He, and Rourav Basak, welcome ideas and proposals.
We will continue to work with ALS management to facilitate communication with the user community on the ALS-U Project as well as the upcoming ALS director search. Finally, we are here for you, the user community. If you have any ideas, concerns, suggestions, or questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us by email at alsuec@lbl.gov or via the anonymous form here.
