Warm Coat Drive at the ALS and Molecular Foundry
We are joining forces with the Molecular Foundry to collect clean, new or gently-worn coats for Alameda County Social Services. Now through December 19, you can donate your coats to boxes in the lobby of Building 6 or 67. Last year, we collected 93 coats! Users’ Executive Committee Elections Begin November 4, 2019
Voting for new Users’ Executive Committee (UEC) members will begin on November 4, 2019 and continue through November 18, 2019. We are looking to elect five new members, including one ALS-based member. The newly elected members will take office for a three-year term beginning January 1, 2020. All active users are eligible to go to the UEC website, read about each of the candidates, and submit your votes. The election results will be posted on the site after the deadline. The outgoing committee members are Christine Beavers (Diamond, UK), Jennifer Ciezak-Jenkins (US Army Research Lab), Ethan Crumlin (Advanced Light Source, Berkeley Lab), Kelsey Stoerzinger (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory), and Francesca Toma (Chemical Sciences Division, Berkeley Lab). Nominations Due October 28 for New UEC Members
The Advanced Light Source Users’ Executive Committee (UEC) invites nominations for new UEC members. Nominations will be accepted through Monday, October 28. Following an election, five new UEC members will be selected for the 2020–2022 term. Read more »
SSURF Sponsors Congressional Visit to Bay Area User Facilities
The Society for Science at User Research Facilities (SSURF) sponsored a delegation of Congressional staffers to visit national user facilities in the Bay Area this week. On Tuesday, they stopped by the ALS to learn about our capabilities and scientific impact first-hand. Facility News and Shutdown Recap: Summer 2019
It’s been a busy summer at the ALS, with developments ranging from the delivery of a new prototype magnet for testing, to the refurbishing of the Building 80 cubicle farm and lounge area. A five-week shutdown checked off several important upgrades and installations, while other Building 6–related projects proceeded in parallel. Read more »
