Valeriy Yashchuk
- Current role: Senior Scientist, ALS Metrology Program & X-Ray Optics Lab Lead
- 22 years at the ALS/Lab: First, I worked for seven years at the Physics Department, UC Berkeley (April 15, 1997–April 29, 2004). April 30, 2004, was my first working day at the ALS.
- In his own words: I don’t have any specific plans for retirement. I will likely continue collaborating with many of my colleagues—both here at the Laboratory and around the world. Furthermore, I am thinking about writing a book—a sort of memoir about my numerous encounters and collaborations with remarkable people, distinguished scientists, and others. But first, I should make sure that a book like this would be of interest to more than just me. 😀
Haris Mahic

- In his own words: I am retiring to Tanzania, close to a beach on the Indian Ocean. I am planning to operate a B&B so any visitors from the Lab will be most welcome.
