The ALS Users’ Executive Committee is established by the ALS Users’ Association Charter. It serves and represents the interests of thousands of scientists from all over the world, including students and post-docs, who perform research at the ALS. It provides a channel of communication and advocacy between the ALS user community and ALS management. With the support of the ALS staff, the UEC organizes and runs the annual ALS Users’ Meeting, including award ceremonies, held the first week of October (October 1–3, 2019).
By participating in Society for Science at User Research Facilities (SSURF, formerly NUFO) activities and programming, we also facilitate communication with UECs at other user facilities, and our members participate in Congressional visits to educate members of Congress and their staff of the importance of user facilities. SSURF is currently looking for volunteers among the facilities’ users to join the operating committee, which helps organize the annual meeting and other activities. Do not hesitate to contact us if you are interested in getting involved.
The UEC meets regularly throughout the year, during which we discuss topics relevant to the ALS user community. Users and staff are welcome to join us during those meetings; just contact us. For more info about our upcoming meetings, please visit our website.
If you are aware of a topic that is of importance to the ALS user community and would like it to be addressed, either by action or by dissemination, please communicate your concerns and opinions to the UEC. We are here to listen and help. You can email us at alsuec@lbl.gov (or contact members individually), and/or on our WhatsApp channel (see flyers in the ring). You can also make anonymous suggestions here. Finally, remember that your local contact at the beamline is a great point of contact if you have any questions or concerns; even if they are not able to address an issue, they can redirect you to the right person!
