A shelter-in-place order for six Bay Area counties began on Tuesday, March 17, at which point Berkeley Lab went into “safe and stable standby,” and the Advanced Light Source entered a warm standby state that would allow us to restart quickly should conditions change.
The ALS is developing a plan for proposals that are losing allocated beamtime. The highest-level goal is that proposals losing time in the 2020-1 cycle will have priority for allocation of beamtime in the 2020-2 cycle wherever possible. The proposal database tracks both beamtime allocated and beamtime scheduled/used, providing a record of which proposals have lost beamtime.
Please refer to the User Guide for updates, and we will communicate with affected users once we have a detailed plan. At this time, users do not need to take any action.
We hope that our user community can stay safe and healthy during this crisis.
