Responsibilities
Ashley White is the Director of Communications for Berkeley Lab’s Advanced Light Source. In this role, she draws on her background as a researcher and science policy advisor to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to convey the ALS’s key accomplishments to current and potential users, federal funders and policymakers, and the general public. In addition, she is the Head of Strategic Development & Communications for Berkeley Lab’s Energy Sciences Area, which encompasses the ALS, Molecular Foundry, Materials Sciences, and Chemical Sciences Divisions.

Prior to joining the ALS, Ashley served in the U.S. Senate as an MRS/OSA Congressional Science & Engineering Fellow and in NSF’s Division of Materials Research as a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow. She also previously managed the materials science research program at the U.S. Green Building Council.
She is chair of the Materials Research Society’s Focus on Sustainability Subcommittee and also chairs MRS’s Congressional Fellowship selection committee. She serves on the editorial board of MRS Energy & Sustainability.
