Plans for the 2017 ALS Shutdown
The ALS’s next long shutdown period will commence in January, giving staff and technicians a chance to complete work critical to keeping the ALS at the scientific forefront. Between January 3 and March 20, 2017, the ALS will be closed to users so that facility, beamline, and accelerator upgrades and maintenance can be accomplished. Read more »
ALS Engineers Resolve Power Supply Failure, Bring ALS Back Online
On Thursday, July 28, the power supply to the ALS booster bend magnets failed. Over the course of nearly six days, more than 20 ALS staff worked long hours to resolve the failure and get the ALS back online. Read more »
2015 ALS Shutdown
The upcoming long-term operating schedule has been published and users will note that it includes an extended shutdown period (October 26, 2015-January 13, 2016) for the ALS. The lengthy shutdown is in part because it spans the Thanksgiving and Holiday shutdown periods, as well as being indicative of the amount of time required to implement major upgrades. The main project for this shutdown is the completion of the final phase of the Storage Ring Radio Frequency (SRRF) Upgrade. Read more »

Procedures Center Manager Karen Nunez has been working somewhat “behind the scenes” at the ALS for the past seven years, ensuring that documentation for the many procedures involved in ALS operations is clear, correct, and up to date.
