14-Day Notice Prior to Arrival
After a recent review of Berkeley Lab procedures for site access and foreign visits and assignments, the Lab was tasked with tightening up the processes regarding outside visitors to the site. The ALS will be strictly enforcing its 14-day advance notice policy to ensure sufficient time for those processes prior to a user’s arrival at Berkeley Lab.
New and returning users must notify the ALS User Services Office of their planned arrival date by logging into the ALSHub and using the provided links to not only submit their arrival date, but also to review the data we have on file to ensure it is up to date. This includes institution and visa information, which are key for us to process your visit and ensure you can arrive and check in smoothly.
Allowable Visa Types for Conducting Research at the ALS
All foreign nationals must have the correct visa type in order to conduct experiments at the ALS. If a user arrives on an unallowable visa type (commonly WT or B-2), the visa must be corrected prior to the completion of the check-in process and being granted access and authorization to perform experiments. Details of these requirements are available in the ALS User Guide section on Documents for Foreign Nationals.
