We are saddened by the death of our friend and colleague, Dave Humphries. During his long tenure at Berkeley Lab and at the ALS in particular, Dave contributed in many outstanding ways to the success of the Laboratory and of our facility. As a creative and expert magnet engineer, he developed a number of original magnets for different applications ranging from DNA sequencing to particle accelerators.
Thanks to his broad knowledge and leadership skills Dave was also called over the years to several responsibility roles. At the ALS for example, he led the ALS survey and alignment group, and more recently the team that successfully characterized and installed the LEDA insertion device for the GEMINI beamline.
Dave was at home with his family and passed away peacefully on September 13, 2019.
