Vote for Your 2023 UEC Representatives

The Advanced Light Source Users’ Executive Committee (UEC) invites you to participate in the election of six new UEC members to represent the ALS community. Daniela Leitner Elected APS Fellow

ALS-U’s Daniela Leitner has been elected a fellow of the American Physical Society for seminal contributions to a better understanding of ECR (electron-cyclotron-resonance) sources and pioneering the development of the fully superconducting ECR source VENUS, which remains the ECR community technology standard for high beam intensities. Updated 2023-1 Operating Schedule

The operating schedule for the 2023-1 cycle has been updated. The next long shutdown is expected to begin in January 2023 and last until early February (shorter than originally planned). UEC Nominations Due October 28

The Advanced Light Source Users’ Executive Committee (UEC) invites nominations for its upcoming election for five new UEC members (2023–2025 term). Nominations will be accepted through Friday, October 28, 2022. Membership in the ALS UEC shall be open to those users, including students, who are interested in research at the ALS. Read more »

Beamline 7.3.3 SAXS/WAXS User Forum

We invite you to a user forum on October 11 (12:00–1:00 p.m.) to discuss the closure of the 7.3.3 SAXS/WAXS beamline three years from now, necessitated by the parameters of the upgraded ALS source, and the plans for developing an upgraded beamline at a new source point to better suit the needs of the community. August 2022 Message from the UEC

Ming Yi, UEC chair, celebrates a successful User Meeting. This year’s virtual meeting has inspired new ideas for ways to bring science to more people in the future. Steve Kevan Says, “See You Soon!”

After announcing his impending retirement earlier this year, ALS Director Steve Kevan has worked to ensure a smooth transition to the interim ALS management team. He shares his vision of the collaborative future of the ALS and his goal to return as a user before saying not a farewell, but a “see you soon!” Read more »

Interim ALS Leadership Team Announced

Effective September 1, ALS Science Deputy Andreas Scholl will be the interim ALS director, and Head of Strategic Development and Communications for Energy Sciences and ALS Communications Director Ashley White will serve as interim deputy for strategy, alongside Operations Deputies Steve Rossi and Fernando Sannibale. Call for 2021 and 2022 Publications

All publications resulting from work done in whole, or in part, at the ALS must be recorded by the User Office for the Department of Energy (DOE). Please help ensure our records are complete by reporting your ALS publications, especially those published in 2021 and 2022. Read more »
