Interim ALS Leadership Team Announced
Effective September 1, ALS Science Deputy Andreas Scholl will be the interim ALS director, and Head of Strategic Development and Communications for Energy Sciences and ALS Communications Director Ashley White will serve as interim deputy for strategy, alongside Operations Deputies Steve Rossi and Fernando Sannibale. All publications resulting from work done in whole, or in part, at the ALS must be recorded by the User Office for the Department of Energy (DOE). Please help ensure our records are complete by reporting your ALS publications, especially those published in 2021 and 2022. Read more »
Hendrik Ohldag Elected AVS Fellow
Hendrik Ohldag has been elected as a Fellow of the AVS for exploring complex magnetic phenomena using novel x-ray techniques with unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution. Read more »
September 7 Deadline for General User Proposals
The User Office is accepting new General User Proposals (GUPs) from scientists who wish to conduct research at the ALS in the 2023-1 (January–July) cycle. The deadline for submissions is September 7, 2022. Applicants are reminded that they may request joint access to the Molecular Foundry, a nanoscience user facility at Berkeley Lab, to support their ALS activities. Read more »
In Memoriam: David Kilcoyne, ALS Research Scientist
David Kilcoyne was a longtime member of the ALS community, working on a number of different beamlines starting in 1999. He passed away in June 2022 and will be missed dearly. Read more »

Cheng Wang Wins RSC Stephanie L. Kwolek Award
Recently the Royal Society of Chemistry awarded its Materials Chemistry Division Horizon Prize: Stephanie L. Kwolek Award to a team of scientists, including ALS Staff Scientist Cheng Wang, for the discovery of chiral organic materials that allow high control of photon and electron spin. Read more »

Antoine Wojdyla Receives Prestigious Five-Year Research Grant
Antoine Wojdyla is one of three scientists at Berkeley Lab selected by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science to receive funding through the Early Career Research Program (ECRP). His project is titled DREAM beam: Diffraction-limited Radiation Enhancement with Adaptive Mirrors for X-ray coherent beamlines. Read more »
