March 1 Deadline for General User Proposals
The User Office is accepting new General User Proposals (GUPs) from scientists who wish to conduct research at the ALS in the 2023-2 (August–December) cycle. The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2023. Applicants are reminded that they may request joint access to the Molecular Foundry, a nanoscience user facility at Berkeley Lab, to support their ALS activities. Read more »

Daniela Leitner Elected APS Fellow
ALS-U’s Daniela Leitner has been elected a fellow of the American Physical Society for seminal contributions to a better understanding of ECR (electron-cyclotron-resonance) sources and pioneering the development of the fully superconducting ECR source VENUS, which remains the ECR community technology standard for high beam intensities. The operating schedule for the 2023-1 cycle has been updated. The next long shutdown is expected to begin in January 2023 and last until early February (shorter than originally planned). The Advanced Light Source Users’ Executive Committee (UEC) invites nominations for its upcoming election for five new UEC members (2023–2025 term). Nominations will be accepted through Friday, October 28, 2022. Membership in the ALS UEC shall be open to those users, including students, who are interested in research at the ALS. Read more »
