The ALS will shut down in early July for the replacement of the switch station through which all power for the ALS accelerator comes. This replacement will take six months, so we will not offer user beamtime in the second half of 2026. Therefore, we are not issuing a call for new General User proposals or beamtime requests (BTRs) on existing General User proposals this March.
The RAPIDD access path is open during the 2026-1 January–July cycle for urgent access requests and for experiments that can be finished within a single cycle. RAPIDD access proposals may be submitted at any time.
We anticipate offering several months of user beamtime in 2027 before the ALS dark time. More information on the 2027 schedule will be announced in the second half of 2026. You can find more information about upcoming cycles on our ALS Operating Schedule page, and more information about the ALS-U timeline on the ALS-U timeline & facility impacts page.
