Student Poster Competition: Neville Smith Student Poster Award
Neville Smith was the Scientific Director for the ALS from 1994 until his death in 2006. He was known not only for his scientific expertise, particularly in photoemission spectroscopy, but also for his wicked wit. As a great supporter of young scientists, his contribution is acknowledged by the naming of the Student Poster Award in his honor, beginning in 2014. The winner is selected during the poster session on Day 1 of the meeting.
Winners of the student poster competition will receive cash awards.
As part of the competition, students are asked to participate in a “Poster Slam”—a one-minute/one-slide oral preview of their poster just prior to the poster session/reception.
The winner of the student poster session will also present a 10-minute talk about his or her work during the awards talks on Day 2 (see last year’s winners here: 2017 User Meeting Award Recipients).
Note: Limited sponsorship for student registration and travel is available for those who would like to attend the full meeting. We are also able to support a limited number of students who would like to attend the Light Sources 101 tutorial only. To be considered, please fill in this form ASAP.
