Student Poster Competition: Neville Smith Student Poster Award
Neville Smith was the Scientific Director for the ALS from 1994 to 2006. He was known not only for his scientific expertise, particularly in photoemission spectroscopy, but also for his wicked wit. As a great supporter of young scientists, his contribution is acknowledged by the naming of the Student Poster Award in his honor, beginning in 2014.
Winners of the student poster competition receive cash awards.
As part of the competition, students are asked to participate in a “Poster Slam”—a one-minute/one-slide oral preview of their poster just prior to the poster session/reception.
The winner of the student poster session also presents a 10-minute talk about his or her work (see last year’s winners here: 2018 User Meeting Award Recipients).
