ALS Hosts Facility Directors’ “6-Way” Collaboration Meeting
Last week the ALS hosted directors and staff from the five DOE-BES light sources and, for the first time, the Oak Ridge neutron sources, turning the traditional “5-way” directors’ meeting into a “6-way.” Discussions covered strategic and operational topics of common interest, spanning data and computing, instrumentation, strategic planning, metrics, user processes, and business and administrative practices.

Register Your Arrival Date for ALS Access
Reminder! If coming onsite to conduct experiments, you must register your arrival date 3 weeks (U.S. citizens) or 6 weeks (non-U.S. citizens) before your experiment to guarantee access. A calculator is now provided in ALSHub to show you how many weeks in advance you are requesting access. Read more »
March 6 Deadline for General User Proposals
The User Office is accepting new General User Proposals (GUPs) from scientists who wish to conduct research at the ALS in the 2024-2 (August–December) cycle. The deadline for submissions is March 6, 2024. Applicants are reminded that they may request joint access to the Molecular Foundry, a nanoscience user facility at Berkeley Lab, to support their ALS activities. Read more »
Upcoming Operating Schedule Announced
The operating schedule for the 2024-1 cycle has been posted. The next long shutdown will begin in January 2024 and is expected to last 12 weeks. The most up-to-date information on the current schedule and future outlook can always be found on the Operating Schedule web page. Read more »
